Flight

Flight under changing loads

Calibration weights and a perforated test plate beside a scale

The question

How does a change in payload affect the balance and behaviour of the flight platform?

Proposed approach

Compare bounded load cases and document mass, centre of gravity and observed responses.

What needs to be established

Repeatable measurements, test conditions and a justified operating envelope.

Perception for close interaction

Name the load state, not only the tool

Two tools of similar mass can load an aircraft differently if their centres of gravity or working ends differ. A carried object may also change the state during a task. The proposed work asks which measured descriptors are useful before choosing control settings or operating limits.

The comparison must keep the aircraft, measurement method and battery condition interpretable. Ground mass measurements establish one part of the problem; observed flight response establishes another. Separating them prevents a simple load table from being treated as evidence of online adaptive flight control.
